Town of Newstead/Village of Akron Emergency Manager, Dan Kowalik, gave a COVID-19 update on Tuesday. The confirmed number of cases in the 14001 Zip Code since March of 2020 continued to rise, now 550, in new weekly cases, up 16 from 534 last week, and 530 the week before. Kowalik reminds local residents they need to continue to be smart and follow the recommendations being sent forth by the local health officials. APD first on scene of shooting in Newstead, subjects arrested for other recent crimes
An Akron Police officer was the first on the scene of a shooting at 12976 Main Road in the Town of Newstead on Tuesday night, taking two subjects into custody, according to Akron Police Chief Rick Lauricella.

Town of Newstead/Village of Akron Emergency Manager, Dan Kowalik, shared Monday that confirmed COVID-19 cases in the 14001 zip code continued to rise over the past week, adding another 40 since his last update, bringing the total to 200 positive since March, slightly lower than the rise in cases reported in the previous seven days.
