Tonight, June 10, the Newstead Historical Society will welcome local historian Susan Eck as she presents her program “Emblem of Equality: Women’s Suffrage in WNY”. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, granting American women the right to vote. Susan will examine the contributions of many area women to this major movement, its long struggle and its eventual success.

West Shore Market, a collaboration with the Village of Akron and Akron Chamber of Commerce, will open this Sunday, May 30. Vendors wanting to participate may apply on the West Shore Market website. The Market is designed to support all local businesses, organizations and individuals and organizers welcome anyone with a passion for what they do. The Erie County Department of Health Mobile Unit is at Akron Village Hall today until 6 p.m. administering first dose Pfizer Shots for ages 16 plus. COVID-19 updates on Wednesday indicated another increase in local cases. The confirmed number of new weekly cases in the 14001 Zip Code rose by 27 with 615 cases since March of 2020. That follows two weeks of 19 case increases.
