Newstead now at 109 confirmed COVID-19 cases
Town of Newstead/Village of Akron Emergency Manager, Dan Kowalik, shared Monday, November 30 that confirmed COVID-19 cases in the 14001 zip code continued to rise over the past week, adding another 16 since his last update, bringing the total to 109 positive since March, 62 of those added over the last six weeks.

Decorations begin to take shape for Light Up Akron
Decorations are heralding the upcoming Light Up Akron, set for Saturday, December 12 and helping Russell Park and Main Street in Akron, look a lot like Christmas. Department of Public Works is instrumental in hanging the lights and volunteers are working to provide a safe and festive event to kick off the Holiday season. Residents are encouraged to decorate their homes and make Akron a destination to drive through for the holidays.

Updated election results still show Pope will fill Morlacci seat
In unofficial ballots counted at polling places in the Town of Newstead and Village of Akron on Tuesday, November 3, and early voting, it appears local residents elected Patricia Pope to unexpired term (three years) of Town of Newstead Councilwoman Jeannine Morlacci who resigned May 27, 2020.

Local Emergency Manager issues safety reminder
Town of Newstead/Village of Akron Emergency Manager, Dan Kowalik, has issued a safety reminder to local residents to follow all CDC Guidelines, as well as the Halloween guidelines issued by the CDC. “Our community has done very well during these changing times, and I am sure we all would like to keep it that way.”
