NATIONAL GRID ISSUES STATEMENT The Village of Akron used the recently implemented Code Red Emergency Alert System to get emergency information out to residents to alert them to preparations for high winds expected on Tuesday, January 9. National Grid is tracking a weather system that is expected to bring wind gusts approaching 70 mph across Western New York starting Tuesday morning (01/09/24) and lasting into Wednesday (01/10/24). Rich-Twinn Octagon House is decorated for an old fashioned 1850’s Victorian Christmas and open for tours. The NHS “Highlights of the Octagon” tours takes place on Sundays, December 3, December 10, and December 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. There reduced fees for youth 11 -17 years old and children 5 and under tour for free.

Fourth of July in Akron this year will feature celebrating the Town of Newstead’s Bicentennial with an entire week of activities along with the Akron Celebration Committee’s annual events. Highlights of the activities scheduled, include fireworks at dusk at Veterans Park, Buell Street on July 3. July 4th kicks off with a Power Wheels race beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by the popular Soapbox Derby at 11:00 a.m. Register is day of the race in Russell Park.
