Many Newstead Bicentennial events planned around the town this week

In addition to the many “big” events happening during the Town of Newstead’s bicentennial celebration there are several “smaller,” historically rich and important events pertaining to our area’s history.  Check out the calendar included in this edition for a quick overview. Tonawanda Senecas’ History “History of the Tonawanda Senecas” will be on display at the Tonawanda Indian Community House, 372 Bloomingdale Road on Saturday, July 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. as part of the Newstead Bicentennial Native American day there will be a presentation on the history of the Tonawanda band of Seneca and the Tonawanda reservation hosted

As your historian, I never tire of reading an old excerpt from an old 1800’s newspaper or looking at the many pictures which always make a story come to life. Newstead Historical Society looking forward to welcoming back Erie County Historian Doug Kohler as he talks about, “The Top 10 Events in Erie County History”, tonight, May11.  He will attempt to unravel truths from the distant past of the Holland Land Company to the triumph and tragedy of the Pan-American Exposition and so much more.
