‘Stay off the roads’ is the message for Newstead and Akron residents Travel ban remains in effect

Town of Newstead and Village of Akron residents are being asked to stay off of the roads. Emergency Manager Dan Kowalik reports that the travel ban continues and those ignoring it are putting themselves and others at risk. Kowalik said non-essential vehicles continue to venture out, getting stuck, blocking roadways. “This delays our ability to clear the roads and get power crews to those still without electricity,” Kowalik said. “We are already into the middle of the week before we can get everything open and each stuck vehicle increases that timeline.” Loaders are working to open up the roads so

Return of cannon wheel hub requested

There will be no questions asked if the wheel hub stolen from the historic cannon in Russell Park is returned to the Akron Police Department. The hand forged hub is important to the integrity of the cannon and of no use to the person or persons who stole it, Akron Police Chief Rick Lauricella noted. “We appreciate it’s immediate return,” Lauricella said.

Decking the Streets

Village of Akron crews put the Christmas garland and lights up along the Main Street business district last week.  The Wreaths and garland welcome those coming in to check on the unique shops already decked out in holiday attire with many gift ideas for everyone on your list.  Shops are already welcoming patrons looking to get an early start on their shopping far away from the crowds.  Businesses are also preparing for “Light Up Akron,” on December 10 when Santa will be in town as music, a parade, good food, holiday lights, and great shopping are all on the schedule.
