Head-On Collision created a chain reaction

Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the Crash Investigation Unit has identified the victim in a three-vehicle crash as 21-year-old Trinity Castrechino of Lockport.

The crash occurred Thursday morning along Maple Road in Newstead.  Investigators discovered that Castrechino’s vehicle was traveling southbound when it crossed the double yellow line and struck a northbound vehicle head-on. The third vehicle could not avoid the crash and collided with the vehicle in front of it, traveling northbound.

Fire and EMS personnel found Castrechino unresponsive in her vehicle, and she was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The operator of the vehicle that was struck head-on was transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The occupants of the second northbound vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries.  The driver was transported to Eastern Niagara Hospital for treatment while the passenger was evaluated at the scene by EMS and released.

The crash unit is still investigating the incident and its cause.
