Richard Wayne Christiana

Richard Wayne Christiana, born on October 8, 1941, in Kingston, New York, peacefully passed away on July 29, 2026. A resident of Akron, New York, Richard was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many.  He was intentional in his study of God’s Word and sought to share his knowledge through the consistent way he led his life, leaving an indelible mark on all those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Married to the love of his life, Joyce (Deitz) Christiana, on August 28, 1964, Richard was a devoted family man. He was the proud father of Jacqueline (Randall) Duttweiler, Judy (Robin) McCaffery, Tammy (Robert) Gough, Leah (Brad) McWilliams-Shaffer, Richard (Kathleen Byrnes, DVM) Christiana, Jr., PhD, and Christina Woelfersheim. He was also a cherished grandfather to 20 grandchildren and their spouses. These roles, above all, brought Richard the greatest joy in life. His family was his beacon, his heart, and his purpose. Richard was also a loving brother to his sister Beverly (late Bruce) Schoonmaker and is survived by a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Phyllis Christiana.

Richard was an accomplished engineer, having retired from IBM after a fulfilling career. His professional accomplishments were numerous, but it was his personal interests and hobbies that truly defined him. Richard had a passion for woodworking, classical music, and was a leader in his church community. He was an active member of the New Paltz Church of the Nazarene and One Church in Akron, where his leadership and Bible Studies were greatly valued. Richard’s faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he found joy in sharing his beliefs with others.

Friends and relatives may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. August 7 at One Church, 6 Scotland Rd., Akron, NY 14001 where a Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers charitable contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to One Church or Hospice Buffalo.

Richard was a man of faith, love, and generosity. His life was a testament to the importance of family, community, and service to the Lord. His legacy will continue to inspire all those who knew him.
