Road work set to begin today in Village of Akron
Work on eleven Village of Akron streets is set to begin today, August 20.
Westgate Ave, Shepard Ave, Sunset Blvd, Sunrise Blvd, Sylvan Pkwy, and Crescent Dr. will be micro-milled between August 20 and August 24, 2026 with paving set to begin on August 31, 2026.
Stoneridge Ln, Flint St, Upper John St, Monroe St, and Colony Pl. are only scheduled for micro-paving.
Village Board members approved the purchase from Suit-Kote in an amount not to exceed $208,497.00 for the micro surfacing portion of the project at their meeting Monday night.
Board members authorized the appointment of Martin Schuman to the Zoning Board of Appeals effective immediately.
Fall Festival
An Akron-Newstead Chamber of Commerce request to use Main Street and Russell Park and police assistance for a Fall Festival from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10 was approved.
Car Cruise
Akron-Newstead Chamber of Commerce also received approval for temporary blocking of traffic on Man Street and assistance from the Akron Police Department to lead a Car Cruise through the Village of Akron at noon on September 19, 2026. Cars will gather at St. Teresa’s church parking lot on Buell Street at 11 a.m. with the parade winding through the village and culminating on Main Street for a photo op.
The West Shore Farmer’s Market will hold its final 2026 market in the park from approximately 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. September 19, as well.
Electric shutdown
Akron Village Clerk Jayne DeTine reminded the Board members and residents that there will be a Village wide scheduled electric shutdown on Saturday, September 12 from 10 p.m. to Sunday, September 13 at 6:00 a.m. and Saturday September 19 from 10 p.m. until Sunday, September 20 at 6:00 a.m.
Next meeting
Due to the Labor Day holiday, the Village Board will hold their first meeting in September on Tuesday, September 1. Work session at 6 p.m. followed by the regular board meeting at 7 p.m.
