Sebastian and Fran Bordonaro

Sebastian “Yono” Bordonaro, 103, went home to be with the Lord on October 31, 2022. He was born in Oakfield, NY on December 2, 1918 to the late Joseph and Frances (Mazza) Bordonaro.

Upon graduating from Buffalo High School, Yono went on to honorably serve his country during WWII in Central Europe from 1941 to 1948. As part of the 300th Engineer Combat Battalion, he served under Army Gen. George S. Patton Jr., aka “Old Blood and Guts.”. He was decorated with the American Defense Service Medal, the American Service Medal, and a Bronze Star Medal. He and Frances Palmiero were married on June 7, 1952 and they were inseparable for over 68 years right up until her death in 2021. Together they owned and operated Fran’s Submarines in Williamsville for several years. He also worked and retired as a sales manager from Pepsi Cola. Yono learned from war how precious life is and relished any time spent with his family.

Yono is survived by his sister, Sara Milani, his sister in law, Neda Bordonaro, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Yono was predeceased by his wife, Frances (Palmiero) Bordonaro and by his brothers, Sam Bordonaro, Frank (Geraldine) Bordonaro, and Michael (Celia) Bordonaro, his brother in law, Pat Milani, sisters, Ida (Mike) Clamiti, Pam (Harry) Arteri.  

He will be laid to rest at St Teresa’s Cemetery. A Mass of Christian Burial for both Yono and his wife Fran, will be held 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 5771 Buell Street, Akron, NY 14001. Frances A. Bordonaro went home to be with the Lord on February 16, 2021. She was born in Batavia, New York on August 25, 1925 to the late Luco and Settima (DiPietro) Palmiero.

Fran was a graduate of Jackson School in Batavia. She married Sebastian Bordonaro on June 7, 1952 and they shared over 68 wonderful years together. Fran was a dedicated worker all of her life. She started her first job working at Oliver’s Candy Company in Batavia and was owner/operator of Fran’s Sub Shop in Williamsville for 15 years. Most recently, she worked at Cipollina Restaurant..

Fran is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is predeceased by two brothers, Thomas Palmiero, Nicolas Palmiero,and a sister, Mary Amoroso.

She will be laid to rest at St Teresa’s Cemetery. A Mass of Christian Burial for both Fran and her husband Yono, will be held 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 5771 Buell Street, Akron, NY 14001.
