Shirley Snyder
Shirley Snyder, 90 of Basom, New York, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 12, 2026.
She was born October 6, 1935 on the Tonawanda Indian Reservation, a daughter of the late Albert and Berusha (Skye) Abrams.
She was married to Kenneth Snyder for 49 years until his passing on July 14, 2002.
She was very proud of her heritage as a member of the snipe clan. Shirley was employed by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Akron Central School and Strippit prior to her retirement. She enjoyed bowling, traveling, casinos, Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Bandits, Tonawanda Braves Lacrosse. She was a lifetime member of the Six Nations Agricultural Society, the Peter Doctor Memorial Scholarship Committee, Tonawanda Seneca Historical Society and one of the founding members of the Indian Bowling Association. She participated in League Bowling for many years and proudly held a 200 plus average. She also enjoyed attending the New York State Fair every year.
Survivors include her four daughters, Susan (Michael) Holton, Sandra (Victor) Reuben, Sherilyn “Pindy” Snyder-Parker and Sesiley (Jason) Pragle. Eleven grandchildren, Gerald Krantz III, Danielle Ingram, Simone and Charlene Reuben, Kitty Bates, Aynsley, Jackson Bob, Berusha RoseBud, Snyder Red Bow, Solomon “Wylde Bill” and Bertha Ray Pragle. Eight Great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Woodrow Sr., Myron, Homer, Walter, Frank, Roy B. and Robert Abrams. Half Siblings, William and Milton Abrams and Cora Abrams Brooks.
Family and friends are cordially invited to share thoughts, fond memories and condolences on Wednesday (July 15th) from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the J. Leonard McAndrew Funeral Home, LLC, 32 John St., Akron, NY, where her funeral service will be Thursday at 1pm. Interment will follow in the Tonawanda Indian Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
