Village of Akron continues addressing discoloration of water

The Village of Akron announced yesterday that in the last few days, the Village water system needed to adjust flows outside of a normal range which stirred up water in the transmission main between Akron’s water treatment plant and distribution system in the village. DPW staff flushed hydrants throughout the day, and Erie County Health Department was briefed on the situation. Surveillance samples were taken to the public health lab on May 20. No pressure or chlorine disruptions have occurred.

Thursday morning an update from the Village stated that water staff are continuing to flush hydrants and conditions are slowly improving. Precautionary water samples taken yesterday to the public health lab were clear of contaminants, and additional samples were taken today as an added safety measure. Chlorine residuals in the system are good, and the Erie County Health Department has been updated and is aware of ongoing efforts.
