Music fills Russell Park as Community Christmas tree is lit

Christmas music filled Russell Park Saturday morning as Santa’s Helpers Band accompanied the Akron Central School Elementary Chorus and community members as they sang carols and Santa lit the Community Christmas tree.

Some Senior members of the band gather to look over the program. Tradition has all Seniors wear a "Santa Hat" to identify them as such.


Stopping Erosion

Bill Frey of Frey’s Drilling prepared to begin drilling a new outlet for stormwater off Main Street this week. The Village of Akron designed the project to eliminate an erosion problem caused by stormwater runoff.. The new channel, drilled diagonally through rock, will eliminate problems at street level, containing the water until it reaches the creek bed. A temporary road was constructed across Murder Creek to assist with the project.


Holiday Greetings will help update playground

Holiday Greetings sent through the Akron Lions Club “in Lieu of Christmas” cards program will make it possible to update playground equipment in Russell Park.


Long negotiation process ends as Town accepts contract with Highway employees

Months of negotiations between the Newstead Town Board and full-time Newstead Highway employees ended Monday night with the acceptance of a new five-year contract.


Putting the Spotlight on Leadership with Marybeth Whiting

This month the spotlight shines bright through the efforts of Board of Education member Marybeth Whiting. While completing her Masters Degree Project in Executive Leadership and Change, Mrs. Whiting introduced a series of leadership workshops for the Student Council at Akron Central High School.
