Grant to help grow healthy food and habits

An Eat Well Play Hard Coalition grant will help children attending Rattles to Reading Child Care Inc. grow vegetables and learn about healthy eating habits this year.


The Akron High School Concert Band and Jazz Lab received a standing ovation Saturday night as they presented a number of musical selections following the evening’s theme of “Under The Big Top.”

Annual Water Quality Report released

The 2002 Annual Water Quality Report for the E.P Forrestel Water Treatment Plant and The Akron Water System was recently released. The report is issued to comply with State regulations and is developed to raise understanding of drinking water and awareness of the need to protect drinking water sources.

Candidates respond to editor’s questions

Candidates for Village of Akron offices to be filled during the biennial election on March 18 responded to a number of questions submitted by AKRON BUGLE editor/publisher Marilyn J. Kasperek. Decisions in Albany may force cuts in Akron Central program

The uncertainty of what the lawmakers in Albany will ultimately appropriate for state aid to schools was a reoccurring focus as the Akron Central School Budget Advisory Committee (BAC) completed its work last week.

Raymond Carlo Jr. named Citizen of the Year

Akron Chamber of Commerce has selected Raymond J. Carlo, Jr. as Citizen of the Year 2003. Mr. Carlo has served the Akron/Newstead community in many ways over the years. A dinner in his honor is planned at the Akron House, Main Street Akron on April 14, 2003.

Village approves sewer use agreement for new Town district

Akron Village and Town of Newstead Board members have approved a Sewer Use Agreement that will ultimately bring jobs to the area.

Water break brings resident to Village Board for help

A water break on the weekend of February 22 brought a village resident seeking help from the Akron Village Board at their March 3 meeting.
