Baehr/Leising engagement announced

First Lions ‘In Lieu of Christmas Cards’ list printed

The first Akron Lions Club “In Lieu of Christmas Cards” greetings list appears in this issue. The Club invites all to consider donating the money, usually spent on purchasing and mailing Christmas Cards to neighbors and friends, to the Akron Lions Club for a community service project.

Hearing set on proposed offices at Kreher’s Farm Fresh Eggs

A proposed 7,488 square foot office building at Kreher’s Farm Fresh Eggs, 5411 Davison Road, Newstead is the subject of a Public Hearing on December 8. Kreher’s applied for site plan approval for the construction of the building and 35-40 parking spots on a 120-acre parcel on Davison and Main roads. The Planning Board has reviewed the project and recommended approval. The Town Board also reviewed the project in a their November 17, 2008 work session, meeting with principals from Kreher’s.

Meeting deadlines will help packages arrive by Christmas

Today is the last day Military mail headed for Iraq or Afghanistan can be mailed and reach its destination by Christmas. Akron Postmaster Beth Palizay recently highlighted a number of important dates for those hoping to have their packages and letters reach recipients by Christmas.

New definition of Self-storage unit adopted

Newstead Town Board members amended the Zoning Law to allow self-storage facilities in three Zoning Districts during their regular Board meeting on Monday, November 25. The Board adopted Local Law No. 4 of the Year 2008 entitled “Self-storage Law of the Town of Newstead." The Town Board determined it is in the best interest of the Town of Newstead to provide for self-storage facilities in zoning districts that the Town Board found most appropriate for them.

New option introduced for location of Shared Municipal Works Facility

Those attending tonight’s (December 4) informational meeting on the proposed Village of Akron and Town of Newstead Shared Municipal Works Facility will get the first look at a new location option. Introduced at tonight’s meeting, in the Akron Central High School cafeteria, will be an option to purchase land adjacent to the Village of Akron property on Clarence Center and to build the new facility at that location. Also expected at the meeting is information on a site plan, not previously suggested, for the Buell St. property owned by the Town of Newstead.

Property Tax exemption proposed for Cold War Veterans

A real property tax exemption to qualified Cold War Veterans in the Town of Newstead is under consideration by the Newstead Town Board. Local Law No. 5 of the Year 2008 entitled “Cold War Veterans Law of the Town of Newstead” was introduced at the Board’s last regular meeting.
