Groffs named 2010 Niagara County 4-H Family of the Year

Bob and Mary Lou Groff and their sons Robert Jr. and Joshua were recently named 2010 Niagara County 4-H Family of the Year. Robert Jr. and Joshua are fourth generation 4-Hers, following a family tradition of service and agriculture.

Grill donated for fundraiser

The Menís Club of Wolcottsville has donated a Brinkman 4 burner gas grill for the benefit for Barbara J. Roberto set for Sunday, Nov. 14 from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Newstead Fire Hall, 5691 Cummings Rd., Akron.

Akron PTA to hold first Movie Night of the school year

Board of Education members recognized

There were treats and gifts for Akron Central School Board of Education members last week as the Akron PTA and others observed School Board Recognition Week by acknowledging the boardís volunteer efforts.

Early Deadlines set in November

The AKRON BUGLE is announcing two early deadlines in November due to Thursday holidays Ė Veterans Day November 11 and Thanksgiving Day November 25.

Flu shots available at the Newstead Public Library

The VNA will be at the Newstead Public Library on Monday, Nov. 8 from 3 to 7 p.m. to offer Flu and Pneumonia vaccinations. Flu vaccinations are available to ages 9 and older. A parent or guardian must be present and sign consent for ages 9-17. Please bring insurance card.

Newstead Historical Society Update

Those planning to attend the November 11, Newstead Historical Society meeting are encouraged to find Veteranís Day programs to attend instead. The Newstead Historical Society meeting will not be held so all can take time to honor the courageous men and women of our community and our country who have selflessly served to preserve the freedoms we all enjoy.

Ribbon cutting for new product line/jobs planned at Ford Gum

A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned at on Monday, Nov. 8 at Ford Gum in Akron, NY. The ceremony will celebrate the beginning of production of BIG LEAGUE CHEW Bubble Gum, a brand recently acquired from Wrigley and under license from the Rob Nelson Company.

Special Veteranís Day observance planned at Akron First UMC

A special observance is planned at Akron First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Nov. 10 as the country prepares to observe Veteranís Day, Nov. 11.
