Roll out of recycling/refuse changes in Town and Village catch some unaware

As Modern Disposal began rolling out the new 65-gallon recycling carts for Akron and Newstead residents this week, the phones at the Village of Akron and Town of Newstead Halls, as well as at the Joint Municipal Facility, began ringing. A significant number of residents, particularly renters, reported they were unaware of the changes that came with the issuance of a new joint Village of Akron and Town of Newstead refuse and recycling collection contract with Modern Disposal, which took effect on January 1, 2013. Others seemed confused over the number of carts left at their multiple resident dwellings, according to those fielding the phone calls.
