Akron Central school calendar revised to make February 13 a student attendance day

Akron Central School Board of Education members revised the 2014-15 academic calendar at their meeting on January 7. The approved a Memorandum of Agreement between the District and the Akron Faculty Association regarding the Winter Parent Teacher Conferences, reclaiming Friday, February 13, 2015 as a scheduled student attendance day.

Akron Central setting appointments for Kindergarten registration

The Akron Central School District has announced dates for Kindergarten Registration for the 2015-2016 school year. Parents of children born between December 2, 2009 and December 1, 2010 are reminded that it is time to register their child for Kindergarten.

Akron resident targeted by phone scam

Akron Police Chief Rick Lauricella reports at least one Akron resident was recently targeted with a scam. The resident received an unsolicited call from an individual demanding payment while fraudulently claiming to be from the IRS.

Erie County Undersheriff Mark Wipperman announced January 10, 2015 the arrest of Matthew Jurek, 26 of Akron, in the Newstead fatal hit and run incident on January 5.

Movie night planned at Newstead Senior Center

Movie Night is planned at the Newstead Senior Center on Thursday, January 22 at 5:30 p.m. The movie will be The Hundred-Foot Journey starring Helen Mirren.
