Son of Akron resident guards America from ocean’s floor

In each U.S. Navy battle group, there exists one participant that usually cannot be seen sailing on the horizon. Miles beneath the surface of the sea, this 360-foot-long war vessel navigates silently in patrol of any potential enemy threat.

Akron resident spends eight days ‘Cycling the Erie Canal’

Debbie Delelys of Akron, New York, participated in a 400-mile, eight-day “Cycling the Erie Canal” bike event from July 6 through July 13, 2003. The annual event, organized by New York Parks and Conservation Association (NYPCA), follows the Erie Canal along the Canalway Trail and scenic rural roads.

Community Band to present last concert of season

Akron Community Band will present their last concert of the 2003 Summer Season this Friday night at 8 p.m. in the Russell Park gazebo. A program of new selections and some old favorites is planned with a variety of show tunes, overtures, marches, and surprises.

Newstead Town Board members will hear residents with concerns relative to the environmental impact of proposed Water District #10 during a public meeting Monday night.


New Akron Central Athletic Handbook in development

A new Athletic Handbook for Athletes and Parents is in development for this Fall. Akron Central School Board of Education members heard an overview of the Akron Central Athletic program, including Philosophy, Objectives/Expectations, Coaching Responsibilities, Characteristics of a Good Coach, etc., and Athletic Handbook for Athletes and Parents, from Athletic Director Catharine Haight during the Board meeting/workshop on July 30.


Power problems minimal in Akron and Newstead during outage

The Village of Akron and Town of Newstead emerged from last week’s general power outage with minimal impact.


Three Village property owners held accountable under maintenance law

Three Village of Akron property owners were held accountable, under the Village Property Maintenance Law, for the condition of their property during a public hearing on August 18.
