Waterline Project

A new eight-inch waterline along Brooklyn Street is replacing a 4 inch line installed in the 40’s or 50’s. The new line will improve service and fire protection to the area. Funding for the project being completed by Village of Akron forces is coming from an Erie Community Development black grant totaling $90,000.

Newstead Historical Society Update

Clear skies greeted our guests for the eighth “A Mid-Summer Night Swing held on Saturday, August 14 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Octagon House, 145 Main St., Akron.


Mary Jane Shonn and Nancy Eckerson display a poster of Veggie Tales SUMO of the Opera as Kathy Santiago announces a premiere showing of the new movie at Akron First United Methodist Church, Church Street, Akron on August 29. The entire community is invited to see the movie on the “big screen” in Akron First’s sanctuary. Watch for details next week.

Agreement to abate noise at Akron Airport put in place

The Akron Airport and the Town of Newstead recently signed an agreement to work together to minimize the impact of the Airport on area residents.

Postal Service investigating missing metered mail

The United States Postal Service is looking into what happened to about a half tray of metered mail which was deposited at the Akron Post Office last Wednesday, August 11.

Summer Concert season in Russell Park ends Friday

The last of eight Community Band concerts in Russell Park will take place this Friday night at 8 p.m.

Town looking at regulations for home based businesses

A joint endeavor by the Newstead Town Board, and Town Zoning and Planning Boards is focused on helping develop a way small home-based businesses can co-exist with residential development in the Town of Newstead, according to Supervisor Jerry Summe.
