A proposal for the design and future construction of a Community Center for Town of Newstead residents was presented at the Newstead Town Board meeting Monday night. After conversations, Town Board members determined that it is essential to solicit opinions and input from the residents of the Town of Newstead with regards to the planned design and future construction of a Community Center in the community. Newstead Town Board members made appointments, set policies, and adopted a meeting calendar during their 2024 organizational meeting on January 2. Newstead Public Library closed through Monday

The Newstead Public Library closed at 1 p.m. Saturday due to weather conditions. The Library is closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and is expected to reopen for regular hours on Tuesday. The Village of Akron issued a Code Red Alert Friday afternoon in advance of the predicted winter storm expected this weekend. Any Village of Akron residents who experience interruptions in their utility services should call the DPW at 716-542-2680. In the case of a village-wide emergency, information will be relayed to Village of Akron residents through the Code Red Alert. Village of Akron uses ‘Code Red Emergency Alert System’ in preparation for high wind situation

NATIONAL GRID ISSUES STATEMENT The Village of Akron used the recently implemented Code Red Emergency Alert System to get emergency information out to residents to alert them to preparations for high winds expected on Tuesday, January 9. National Grid is tracking a weather system that is expected to bring wind gusts approaching 70 mph across Western New York starting Tuesday morning (01/09/24) and lasting into Wednesday (01/10/24).
