Students thank Board of Education for their support

Akron Central Student representatives from the Elementary, Middle, and High Schools appeared at the Board of Education meeting Wednesday, October 19 to say “thank you” for their support.  They brought cards signed by students, performed a musical selection, and were featured in a video recognizing the Board for their efforts on behalf of the entire district. Hometown Hero banners dedication planned Friday

Akron DPW has been installing Hometown Heroes banners in the village. The banners will be dedicated on Friday, September 16 at 7 p.m., according to Kristy Pingitore who chairs the program.  All are welcome to the dedication which will take place in Russell Park. The banners will stay in place from installation this Fall throughout 2023, according to Pinigtore. Three West Shore Farmers Markets left in 2022

The West Shore Farmers Market continues to offer locally sourced produce and other items for three more Sundays in 2022, September 11, September 18, and September 25. The market, which began in 2021 at the corner of Cedar & Eckerson. is now located in Russell Park from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Sundays. Vendors lined up for the month of September will offer produce, baked goods, home decor, clothing and a variety of hand-crafted items. Opportunities to participate in Bi-Centennial continue to emerge

The Town of Newstead Bi-Centennial Committee continues to work on plans for the 2023 observance.  Although 2023 seems a long way off, it takes many months to plan a huge celebration.  The bicentennial committee has tentative plans for a scavenger hunt, children’s activities, garden walk, cruise night/taste of Akron, Native American day, and many varied activities.  They welcome your participation in this planning.

Akron Central maintains single point of entry

Akron Central School will maintain its single point of entry to the building for the new school year beginning September 6, 2022, the opening day of school for 2022-23.  The Board of Education and the Safety Committee have implemented a system for visitors to the District between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  School Security Officers (SSO) will continue to facilitate the program.
