DEC prohibits brush burning through May 14

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos issued a reminder earlier this month that the annual statewide ban prohibiting residential brush burning is in effect March 16 through May 14. Since 2009, DEC has enforced the annual brush burning ban to prevent wildfires and protect communities during heightened conditions for wildfires each spring.

Cabaret concerts have ‘Pop goes the Movies’ theme

Akron Central Music Department is excited to present the 2022 “Pop Goes the Movies” themed concerts on April 2, 2022.  It was April of 2019 when the they last presented their Cabaret Concerts for friends and family in the school’s performance gymnasium. With pandemic restrictions lifted, the popular concerts return as the gymnasium is transformed into a nightclub with the glamour of Hollywood with lights, round tables, beverages and snacks.  The event will be a soundtrack of theatrical favorites and pop music.

Garbage pick-up delayed

All trash routes in the Town of Newstead and Village of Akron are delayed this week. Friday routes are pushed to Saturday. Joseph M. Hickman Strategic/Municipal Sales Manager said, “With the current spike around our community and country of COVID-19 cases, we may experience service delays in your area. The safety of our employees and our customers is our highest priority, and we are working to ensure you are serviced as close to the expected service date as possible. Friday routes may push to Saturday, please leave garbage out if it is not collected on Friday. “
