All Rapid COVID-19 tests picked up in day one of Akron and Newstead distribution
All of the Rapid COVID 19 Test Kits procured by the Town of Newstead and Village of Akron Emergency Managers were distributed at Village of Akron and Town of Newstead pick-up sites for local residents Tuesday morning, with none remaining for a distribution on Wednesday.

New Year’s Eve celebration planned in Russell Park
The Akron Celebration Committee is happy to bring back New Year’s Eve in Russell Park. The “Family Friendly” festivities begin at 11:30 p.m. with music, hats and more. There will be a ball drop at midnight to welcome in 2022, followed by an incredible fireworks display. This is an alcohol-free gathering and glass bottles are prohibited.

Elementary Choir to perform Saturday at Tree Lighting
The Community is invited to attend the Community Christmas Tree Lighting, now scheduled for Saturday, December 18, 2021, in the Gazebo in Russell Park. Akron Elementary Choir, under the direction of Kim Stachowski, will offer festive holiday songs in the Gazebo at 3:30 p.m. Deputy Mayor Darrin Folger and wife Lynn Folger will light the tree with help from Santa and Mrs. Claus as well as Superintendent of Akron Central Schools Patrick McCabe, at 4 p.m. There will not be a Light up Akron parade this year. Main Street businesses open until 8.
