Decorations begin to take shape for Light Up Akron

Decorations are heralding the upcoming Light Up Akron, set for Saturday, December 12 and helping Russell Park and Main Street in Akron, look a lot like Christmas.   Department of Public Works is instrumental in hanging the lights and volunteers are working to provide a safe and festive event to kick off the Holiday season.   Residents are encouraged to decorate their homes and make Akron a destination to drive through for the holidays.

Mobile Food Day

REACH and Feedmore WNY will hold a Mobile Food Day on October 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Masonic Parking Lot, John Street, behind the C Dee Wright Community Ministry Center, 11 Church Strett. The Food distribution is open to Akron-Newstead residents of all ages. Verbal sign in for a Family Farm Box and two other items. Food donations welcome as Food Pantry week approaches

With the current restrictions on large gatherings due to the pandemic, this year’s Food Pantry Party is an Akron-Newstead Food Pantry Week set for October 10-17, 2020.  Food collection barrels and coin collection jars are located at various businesses in the village and town through October 16, 2020.  Mail checks payable to the Akron/Newstead Food Pantry to: Community Holiday Food Drive P.O. Student supplies distributed

BUILDING UNITY DAY OF GIVING – The Third Annual Back-To-School give-away sponsored by the Akron-Newstead Alliance was held on August 26 at the Newstead Senior Center, Cummings Road, Akron.  250 bags with supplies for students were given away.  A free farmers market was also held that day with 100 bags of fresh produce distributed.
