Local authorities monitoring Extreme Heat conditions, cooling shelter available

The Akron/Newstead Emergency Management team, Village of Akron and Town of Newstead, and local fire companies are monitoring and preparing to assist where needed in the extreme heat conditions expected this week. Noting that Heat related deaths and illnesses are preventable, Erie County has a number of resources https://www3.erie.gov/health/health/extreme-heat to help area residents. Akron Central School District Voters adopt budget

Akron Central School Voters approved a $43,926,821 budget for 2024-2025 on Tuesday with 317 yes, 127 no votes.  The budget represents a two percent increase in the tax levy, lower than the 5.82 percent allowed under the State Tax Cap calculation. Phillip Kenline and Erik Polkowski 305, were reelected to the Board of Education.  Kenline with 271 votes, Polkowski with   305 votes and Charles Roggen with 170 votes. Voters also approved the referendum to purchase two full size buses,      328 yes to    112 no.
