Newstead Fire and mutual aid companies respond to structure fire at Arrowhead Golf Course
A structure fire was reported at the Arrowhead Golf Course, Clarence Center Road, Akron at10:38 a.m. Saturday morning, May 23. Newstead Volunteer Fire Company, along with standard automatic mutual aid partners, were dispatched, according to a Newstead Fire Company report.
Newstead Fire Chiefs arrived on the scene within minutes to find active heavy smoke and fire showing from the northwest corner of the rear building, The Sterling at Arrowhead Golf Club. Members of the public were already actively evacuating the facility as emergency crews arrived.
Given the size of the commercial structure and the active fire conditions, a second alarm was immediately requested to bring additional manpower and resources to the scene.
Firefighters successfully established a water supply by deploying 1,500 feet of large-diameter supply hose line to the scene. Thanks to the aggressive and coordinated attack by fire personnel, the fire was quickly contained and extinguished, minimizing further major damage to the property. No injuries were reported at the scene.
The cause of the fire was determined as improper disposal of a cigarette, per the Erie County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigation Unit. Damages were estimated at $1.5 million to the structure and another $500k to the contents.
