State Police looking for public assistance in fraud investigation

The New York State Police – SP Clarence Bureau of Criminal Investigation have an ongoing fraudulent financial investigation where we are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying additional victims to a fraudulent financial activity. It is believed the fraudulent transactions are connected to purchases made at a fast-food establishment on Transit Road in the town of Clarence in between the dates of January 15, 2026 – April 10, 2026. Moving forward Town tax payments require exact change

Residents who want to pay their taxes in cash at the Newstead Town Hall will need to do so in exact change moving forward. Newstead Town Board members voted to require cash tax payments to be made for the exact amount owed only during their April 13 meeting. The action came so that the Town could continue to accept cash payments for the benefit of residents, regardless of the availability of pennies.
