Each year the Rotary Club of Akron-Newstead welcomes the recipients of the scholarships presented by the Club to Akron Central School graduating seniors. Ronald Parker, 86 of Basom, New York, died Thursday, August 8, 2024 at the NYS Veterans Home, Batavia, NY. He was a US Army Veteran, serving his country from 1957-1959. Ron was of the Snipe Clan of the Tonawanda Band of Senecas. He graduated from Akron Central School in 1956. A welder by trade, he had a long and varied work history. He leaves behind his wife, Michele Lee Parker (nee Moses) of Basom. Daughter, Melanie L. Parker (David Albright) of Basom. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as brother in-law, Jerome Bartel and family. Ron

One concert remains in the 101st summer season of the Akron Community Band. This Friday, August 16 they will play in the Russell Park Gazebo, Main Street, Akron at 8 p.m. featuring Summer Block Party music from such groups as Queen, Bruno Mars, the Foo Fighters, The White Stripes and ColdPlay, as well as some traditional favorites.
