State Police looking for public assistance in fraud investigation

The New York State Police – SP Clarence Bureau of Criminal Investigation have an ongoing fraudulent financial investigation where we are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying additional victims to a fraudulent financial activity.  It is believed the fraudulent transactions are connected to purchases made at a fast-food establishment on Transit Road in the town of Clarence in between the dates of January 15, 2026 – April 10, 2026.  SP Clarence Investigators urge individuals to carefully review their credit card and debit card statements to specifically look for any unauthorized or suspicious transactions listed under the business name of “Jays Creates”

Voter early mail and absentee ballot applications available

Early Mail and Absentee ballot applications for the Akron Central School May Budget Vote and School Board Elections may be acquired by contacting the District Office at (716)542-5006 or by emailing the District Clerk at districtclerk@akronk12.org. The completed application must be returned to the district on or before Tuesday, May 12 if the ballot is to be mailed to the resident.  Or, the completed application must be received by the district no later than Monday, May 18 if the ballot is being picked up by the voter. Freedom Train Display at the Newstead Public Library

Local resident and train enthusiast Bob Scheib shares his model of the American Freedom Train and boxcars labeled with names of the original thirteen colonies with the library.  All are invited to enjoy this exhibit of trains and memorabilia from the American Freedom Train, a traveling exhibition of unique artifacts honoring the bicentennial celebration of 1976. Bob will introduce the film, Bicentennial on Tour: The American Freedom Train (filmmaker Peter Dibble), on Monday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m. followed by a discussion.
