A structure fire was reported at the Arrowhead Golf Course, Clarence Center Road, Akron at10:38 a.m. Saturday morning, May 23. Newstead Volunteer Fire Company, along with standard automatic mutual aid partners, were dispatched, according to a Newstead Fire Company report.

Village of Akron continues addressing discoloration of water

The Village of Akron announced yesterday that in the last few days, the Village water system needed to adjust flows outside of a normal range which stirred up water in the transmission main between Akron’s water treatment plant and distribution system in the village. DPW staff flushed hydrants throughout the day, and Erie County Health Department was briefed on the situation. Surveillance samples were taken to the public health lab on May 20. Moving forward Town tax payments require exact change

Residents who want to pay their taxes in cash at the Newstead Town Hall will need to do so in exact change moving forward. Newstead Town Board members voted to require cash tax payments to be made for the exact amount owed only during their April 13 meeting. Local resident and train enthusiast Bob Scheib shares his model of the American Freedom Train and boxcars labeled with names of the original thirteen colonies with the library.
