Akron on flight path for National Warplane Museum “Operation Thanks From Above”

Akron is on the morning flight plan for this weekend’s National Warplane Museum “Operation Thanks From Above.  Led by Douglas C-47 Flyover events will take place May 16th honoring coronavirus first responders and essential workers in the Western New York Region. The missions included in “Operation Thanks From Above” are being designed to overfly key hospitals, Veterans Affairs locations, city centers, parks and other notable venues in the Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse areas. Wetzen funeral procession planned at 2 p.m. Friday, May 1

Burial for Thomas “Coach” Wetzen who entered into rest Saturday, April 25, will take place on Friday, May 1, 2020 with a Funeral Procession leaving Ross Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. heading through town, past Wetzen Field and ending at St. Teresa’s Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at a later date. Town of Newstead Highway resumes full work schedule under COVID-19 guidelines

The weekly COVID-19 Akron/Newstead Public Safety Team reports to Town of Newstead and Village of Akron Emergency Services Coordinator Dan Kowalik announced the Town of Newstead’s highway department return to a full-time work schedule on Monday, April 27.  The department is working 4 ten-hour days (Monday through Thursday).  Daily temperature monitoring and other COVID-19 protocols are in place.

Erie County receives Federal Coronavirus stimulus funds, cannot be used to offset lost sales tax revenue, state aid

Erie County Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw Jr. has confirmed that Erie County government received anticipated funding from the federal government totaling $160,306,414.50 to assist with COVID-19 related expenses.  The revenue was direct deposited by the Federal Government into Erie County’s Trust Account on April 24, 2020.  The money is the result of the CARES Act stimulus package passed by federal lawmakers and signed by President Trump. The legislation provides financial assistance to local governments combating the Coronavirus.
