Newstead Town Board members learned at their meeting Monday night that their request for a speed reduction on Crittenden Road, between NY Route 5 (Main Road) and the Akron Village line, will result in a reduction on part of that section of Crittenden.

The Village of Akron has announced that a contractor for Erie County will begin a temporary resurfacing project on East Avenue tomorrow, May 13, weather depending. It is planned to take three days. Jane Beverly (Wittlinger) Downey-Roesch, of Akron, New York entered into rest on May 1, 2025. Born on January 30, 1931, in Clarence, New York, she was 94 years old. She was an avid collector of Shirley Temple memorabilia and for many years played bass drum in the Akron Community Band and Corfu-Pembroke Band. Sandra Marie Meyers of Alden, New York (formerly of Friendship, NY) passed away on April 30, 2025. She was born on August 14, 1948. She was married on August 7, 1971 to Loren Meyers who survives. Loren and Sandi have three sons: Alan (Leigh) of Randolph, NY; James (Heather) of Sacramento, CA; and Dale (Rachel) of Alden.
