Field Hockey team meets Eden Monday night

The udefeated in league and #1 seed Akron Varsity Field Hockey Team is headed into the playoffs. Town of Newstead has one contested race in the current election

Town of Newstead voters have several seats to fill in the current election with early voting underway at various locations including the lower level of the Akron Village Hall, Main Street and your designated polling place on election day, November 4, 2025, however, only one is contested.  Two candidates are seeking the position of Town of Newstead Highway Superintendent, incumbent Michael Bassennello and Gary Baehr, a veteran member of the Town Highway Department.

Seniors honored at 5:30 tonight, game cancelled

Due to Springville forfeiting the game, the Friday, October 24th, Akron Varsity football game against the Griffins has been canceled. But Tiger Spirit is STRONG! You are invited to come out to honor our senior players and cheerleaders at 5:30 PM on the football field. Ethan Robinson will give an encore rendition of the national anthem. FIRE SAFETY WEEK

FIRE SAFETY WEEK – Akron Central Elementary School students participated in Fire Safety Week activities October 7-10, 2025. The District and those who had an opportunity to participate send a “Thank you” to the volunteers from the Akron and Newstead Fire Companies and Akron Ladies Auxiliary members who provided students with life lessons in fire prevention and safety. Board of Education adopts goals for 25-26

Akron Central School Board of Education members adopted goals for the 25-26 school year during their October 1 Board meeting.  The goals were developed at a Board workshop and build on last year’s goals. The Board Philosophy serving as a foundation for the goals is: “As a board, we are committed to remaining fiscally conservative, focused on long-term sustainability for facilities, transportation and personnel that best benefits the instruction and experiences of our students.”

Akron Chambers sponsors Scarecrow contest
