Commemorative 250 Coins offered at Museum tour
The Newstead Historical Society is giving Commemorative Coins to the first 100 people to take a tour of their museums on the Fourth of July. They invite everyone in the community to join them for any or all of their activities this weekend. Akron Community Band will present their Friday night concert in Veterans Park, Buell Street, Akron beginning at 7 p.m. on July 3. Newstead Fire and mutual aid companies respond to structure fire at Arrowhead Golf Course
A structure fire was reported at the Arrowhead Golf Course, Clarence Center Road, Akron at10:38 a.m. Saturday morning, May 23. Newstead Volunteer Fire Company, along with standard automatic mutual aid partners, were dispatched, according to a Newstead Fire Company report.

Village of Akron continues addressing discoloration of water
The Village of Akron announced yesterday that in the last few days, the Village water system needed to adjust flows outside of a normal range which stirred up water in the transmission main between Akron’s water treatment plant and distribution system in the village. DPW staff flushed hydrants throughout the day, and Erie County Health Department was briefed on the situation. Surveillance samples were taken to the public health lab on May 20. State Police looking for public assistance in fraud investigation
The New York State Police – SP Clarence Bureau of Criminal Investigation have an ongoing fraudulent financial investigation where we are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying additional victims to a fraudulent financial activity. It is believed the fraudulent transactions are connected to purchases made at a fast-food establishment on Transit Road in the town of Clarence in between the dates of January 15, 2026 – April 10, 2026. SP Clarence Investigators urge individuals to carefully review their credit card and debit card statements to specifically look for any unauthorized or suspicious transactions listed under the business name of “Jays Creates”

Gerstung scores 1,000th point
Tiger Varsity Basketball player, Benjamin Gerstung joined an elite group as he scored his 1,000th point at Wilson on January 21. Only four other players in Akron Basketball have achieved that milestone.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Ross, beloved funeral director of Ross Funeral Home of Akron, who served the Akron community with dignity, compassion, and unwavering dedication for over ten years.
